PART  TWO

PART THREE
How the Violin Was Born - Hugh Marsh The Cave, Part 3 - Steve Reich The Great Farini - Michael Occhipinti
Forty Six & Two - Tool

Hugh Marsh’s instrumental work “How The Violin Was Born” introduces the violin, the hero, and the rhythmic nature of this work along with Hugh’s trademark electric violin phrases and gestures will introduce the hero concept.

We are adapting the music from Part Three of Steve Reich’s “The Cave” for our ensemble and will supplement our ensemble with pre-recorded tracks in order to cover all of the musical elements.  The sound of the guitar will be an important colour that supplements the key and percussion sound and rhythms.

We are attracted to the concepts that Mr Reich explores in his work because they talk about the “heroes” of a dominant religion that impacts diverse religions today (Christian, Muslim), whose adherents can trace back the origins of their heroes to these persons.  The rhythmic nature of Mr Reich’s work, the pulse and textures enable us to create visual representations with our dancers.

In the “Great Farini”, Michael Occhipinti relates the fantastic journey of a modern day hero of the adventure world, William Hunt. Tool’s work “Forty Six and 2” explores the notions of balance in human chromosomes and the nature of the Jungian shadow, and our reconciliation with this force within us.  We will use these works to explore the hero’s final stage of his journey.

Our dance choreography throughout will be influenced by the concepts of the hero, and by the music.  Choreographed and improvised movements developed by Event Dance Horizon’s Miranda Abbott and Libydo will interact with visual imagery and the performance environment, both representing the musical sounds, like echoes, and inspiring the musical stories.
